Libya has a workforce of approximately one million, of which:

  • 31% work in the industry;
  • 27% are involved in provision of services;
  • 24% are employed at government entities;
  • 18% in the agricultural sector.

WORK PERMITS AND LABOUR RELATIONS

  • Foreigners who work in Libya are required to have a work permit which must be applied in advance by the prospective employer.
  • Permission is normally granted to those having the skills and qualifications that are required in Libya and are not specifically prohibited by the Labor Office.
  • The approval for a work permit is given usually between 10-15 days after the application is received.
